The U.S. healthcare system has become so costly and complex – deductibles, drug plans, surprise costs hiding in the fine print – that, as a recent article in the New York Times put it, it has become “an exercise in patience and a test of financial resilience.” As complicated as it is for Americans to understand, the journalists at the Times wondered what it must look like to people from other countries, particularly those with universal health care where bankruptcy over illness – expected or not – is not only unheard of, it is shocking. Protecting the environment should be a high priority for everyone, particularly politicians. They seem to be in denial over the idea that the environment is our life support system - once it's damaged, it may not be fixable.
